The PROMETIA’s tech tour is an exciting and highly valuable experience for PhD students, postdocs, young engineers and early-career researchers. We had the opportunity to embark on a exclusive exploration of extractive metallurgy and materials recycling in northern France.

We began our adventure in Lille, where we had the opportunity to visit the facilities of Nyrstar & Recytech S.A., where we learned about advanced metal production techniques and high-zinc waste recycling methods. To continue, experts from Pôle TEAM2 gave us some insight on the circular economy through resource recycling.

Our next stop was at Eramet Ideas, where we gained valuable knowledge into their innovative solutions and learned about their unwavering commitment to advancing metal extraction, promoting sustainable practises, and recycling industrial residues for a circular economy.

To conclude our journey, we had the privilege of exploring the Orléans facilities of BRGM. Under the guidance of the BRGM team, we engaged in fruitful discussions regarding criticality assessment, life cycle analysis, challenges in mineral processing, and bioleaching applications.

It was a real pleasure to be part of this fantastic experience and be able to meet such an interesting group of people and interchange some thoughts with all of them. Special thanks to the organizers Patrick d’Hugues Stéphane Bourg Yongxiang Yang that contributes in a high extent to the high-quality of the tour.
