TERASUN project launches with successful Kick-off meeting in Girona

IDENER is proud to announce the official launch of the TERASUN project, following a high-level kick-off meeting held on June 13, 2024, in Girona, Spain. As the Project Coordinator, IDENER welcomed partners from across Europe to align on the mission of advancing “Towards Terawatt Production of c-Si Solar Photovoltaics”. This 36-month initiative is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program and aims to drive innovation in high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar technology.

The meeting served as a strategic platform for a consortium of recognized photovoltaic experts to outline technical roadmaps for the next three years. Key discussions focused on developing innovative texturisation and nanophotonic structures, alongside research into indium-free transparent conductive oxides and silver-free metallisation to reduce reliance on critical raw materials. Partners also addressed the environmental and economic assessments required to support industrial decision-making throughout the project’s lifecycle.

The event featured a session with the European Commission Project Officer, who provided guidance on collaborative success and highlighted the project’s connection to sister initiatives BURST and SILEAN. As the lead coordinator, IDENER is responsible for the overall technical and financial management, ensuring that all milestones—ranging from advanced wafer texturing to full photovoltaic module assessment—are achieved by the project’s conclusion on May 31, 2027. The consortium looks forward to its next meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Delft in December.
