FLEXBY participates in Horizon Europe Cluster event on sustainable aviation and maritime fuels

On October 15th, the FLEXBY project had the privilege of attending the Horizon Europe Cluster Event on aviation and maritime fuels, organized by CINEA. Represented by the project coordinator, Nuria Ferrera Lorenzo, FLEXBY took part in important discussions with various stakeholders from related projects.

The session addressed several key legislative aspects tied to the European Green Deal and the Fit for 55 packages, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering sustainable fuels for aviation and maritime sectors. Specific directives discussed included the ReFuelEU Aviation Initiative and the FuelEU Maritime Regulation, which aim to promote the use of sustainable fuels by ensuring that the aviation and shipping industries progressively reduce their carbon footprints.

One of the primary goals of the event was fostering synergies and collaborative efforts among projects focusing on similar themes. Some highlights were discussed to join initiatives between projects, such as: joint activities for LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and TEA (Techno-Economic Analysis), developing a comprehensive feedstock database, social acceptance of renewable energy and biofuels, challenges in maritime fuel certification, webinars and best practices sharing, overcoming technical challenges and establishing a project results database.

By participating in this event, FLEXBY took an important step toward forming strategic partnerships with other Horizon Europe projects, laying a strong foundation for its clustering activities. As well as marking the beginning of what promises to be a fruitful collaboration, furthering the development and implementation of sustainable aviation and maritime fuels.
