OCEOMICS officially kicks off in Valencia

The OCEOMICS project officially kicked off on 4 and 5 June 2026 in Valencia, Spain, bringing together for the first time the 12 partners that form its consortium. Funded under the Horizon Europe programme and led by AINIA, OCEOMICS is a four-year project dedicated to exploring marine biodiversity for the development of sustainable cosmetic bioactives.

The project integrates marine bioprospecting, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, blue biotechnology innovation, and Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles to pursue new, data-driven approaches to marine biodiscovery. The consortium brings together partners from Europe and New Zealand, spanning the full value chain from marine sampling and AI-driven discovery through to bioproduction, formulation and commercial validation.

IDENER.AI participates in the project as the leader of Safety Assessment. In this role, IDENER.AI is responsible for assessing the safety of the production processes, as well as the novel marine bio-active compounds and derived products developed within OCEOMICS, applying an SSbD framework throughout.

The kick-off meeting marked the starting point of a collaborative journey that will see researchers, technologists and industry partners work together to unlock the potential of marine organisms as a source of high-value, sustainable ingredients for the cosmetics sector.
