Strategic talks take center stage at CITADEL General Assembly in Ljubljana

The CITADEL project forges ahead, and this time in Slovenia. IDENER has participated in the third CITADEL Consortium Meeting, which took place from April 2-4, 2025, in the cities of Ljubljana and Hrastnik. Hosted by the Josef Stefan Institute and Hrastnik1860, this assembly allowed the consortium partners to present and assess their progress and plan for the future.

The start of implementation and demonstration activities of the project’s innovative heating technologies this year led to fruitful discussions on the status of the demo cases and their electrification strategies during the first day. In this context, as leaders of WP6 and WP8, IDENER presented the first insights into the flexibility services analysis methodology, including the successful WP6 kick-off in February 2025, and the renovated business plan strategy with a preliminary techno-economic analysis for the HRASTNIK demo case.

On the second day, we had the opportunity to attend an exclusive tour of the Hrastnik1860 facilities, where we witnessed first-hand all the manufacturing processes to produce glass containers of the highest quality. This enabled us to better understand the processes comprised in the demos case 2, especially those related to the melting glass furnaces.

The CITADEL project will continue to advance in increasing the proportion of electrical energy used in the glass melting process, contributing to the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries.
