The 9th European Bioremediation Conference (EBC-IX) was held from 15 to 19 June 2025 in Chania, Greece, and was jointly organized by the Technical University of Crete and the University of Bologna. This leading European conference on environmental biotechnology and bioremediation gathered scientists, engineers and other environmental professionals to show their findings and discuss the latest innovations in bioremediation innovations for contaminated sites, marine environments, resource preservation and bio-based reclamation.
BIOSYSMO participated as part of the ALL4BIOREM EU Bioremediation Cluster Workshop, alongside nine other projects, including pHYBi, a project currently coordinated by IDENER.AI. Sessions covered topics such as molecular approaches to bioremediation, circular economy and waste valorisation, phytoremediation technologies, and the contribution of environmental biotechnology to the Zero Pollution Action Plan and broader European sustainability priorities.
The BIOSYSMO project, coordinated by IDENER.AI, is building a digital framework for bioremediation that brings together multi-omics, metabolic modelling and microbial engineering to accelerate the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for mixed pollutants in soils, sediments and water. At the workshop, Sara Gil Guerrero presented the project objectives and first results in a flash presentation, while Lila Otero joined the panel discussion to share how BIOSYSMO contributes to European environmental and innovation priorities.
IDENER.AI´s involvement highlighted BIOSYSMO´s contribution to innovative bioremediation solutions, fostering synergies with the Europe´s leading bioremediation research community. The event reinforced BIOSYSMO´s role in advancing sustainable, science-based and technology-driven environmental restoration strategies.
