DATA4CIRC: Data-driven AI-assisted digital framework for enhancing circularity in manufacturing

DATA4CIRC project is set to boost circular practices in the manufacturing industry to promote decarbonization while also increasing competitiveness and encouraging the adoption of recycling and reuse strategies. The project’s cornerstone is the DATA4CIRC solution, a human-centric, collaborative digital platform that harnesses data and state-of-the-art digital tools for the digitalization of assets. This platform will include Federated Data Spaces, Digital Models of circular value chains and products, a Digital Product Passport, and an AI-powered tool for comprehensive lifecycle assessments. By merging these components into a cohesive framework, the project aims to enhance data sharing and availability, thus fostering cooperation and the formation of circular value chains.

The development of this solution will utilize ontologies and semantic models, accompanied by intuitive user interfaces. The DATA4CIRC solutions will also align with current standards and frameworks to ensure widespread adoption and maximize impact. A key aspect of the project is its attention to social dimensions, focusing on transitioning to circular business models that account for the needs and perspectives of end-users. The project is committed to social innovation, enhancing human engagement through collaborative creation and validation processes.

Additionally, the project will design and implement a training program to upskill and reskill workers, ensuring they are equipped to harness digital tools in the manufacturing sector during and after the project. The effectiveness of the DATA4CIRC solution will be validated through three practical use cases, which will see the project evolve from Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL4) to TRL6. These use cases involve circular value chains in the electronics, plastics, and automotive sectors—industries that have significant potential for impact and considerable opportunities for advancement in the circular economy domain.
