First METALLICO Review Meeting in Freiberg, Germany

The METALLICO project held its first review meeting in Freiberg, Germany, organized by Fraunhofer IKTS. The meeting was a significant milestone for the project, marking the successful validation of the laboratory-scale tests and the transition to pilot-scale development. The event provided an opportunity to review the progress made in the five case studies that are central to the project’s goals.

IDENER.AI participated in the meeting, contributing to the discussions and presenting the results from the various Work Packages. The project, which focuses on the sustainable recovery of critical metals for the battery industry, is now moving towards the scaling up of processes previously validated at the laboratory level.

A key highlight of the meeting was the live demonstration of the COOL+ process, a method for lithium recovery from primary mineral resources, conducted at the Fraunhofer IKTS facilities. The consortium had the chance to visit the IKTS labs and see first-hand the equipment and technologies used in the process, which is integral to the project’s objectives of improving the efficiency and sustainability of critical metal recovery.

The meeting was attended by the project consortium, including project officers and partners. A special thanks goes to Andrej Rožkov (Project Officer) and Laurent Cassayre (Reviewer), for their valuable insights. Fraunhofer IKTS, as the host and key partner, provided a comprehensive tour of their facilities, showcasing the innovative technologies used in the COOL+ process for lithium recovery.

This review meeting was not only a technical milestone but also a great opportunity for networking and furthering collaborations within the project team. In addition to the working sessions, the evening offered a chance to relax with a city tour of Freiberg and a dinner, where discussions continued in a more informal setting.
